About Us

luis-y-brianaA Yucatan Peninsula native, Luis Gomez was born in Merida in 1957. At the age of 16 he left home and moved to the port of Veracruz where he lived for the following 8 years and made his first submersions in the waters of the Gulf of Mexico.

When he was 24 years old, several of his friends started moving down to Cancun bringing parasailing boats with them which in that time was the major tourist attraction.

In August 1982, Luis arrives in Cancun ready to launch his own business and starts out with a restaurant, then a boutique, two years with a waterskiing boat, an ice cream shop, and finally in 1984 he launches what is still to this date, an Editorial company dedicated to the production and distribution of postcards, tourist guides, books, and other souvenirs.

This new business pushes him towards underwater and aerial photography and from that moment back in 1985 to this date, a camera became a standard item he always had in his scuba gear. His philosophy has always been, “When you’re underwater, you never stop learning or running into new extraordinary things.”

In the year 2000, a large piece of land right on the coast of Puerto Morelos is purchased with the idea of starting a scuba diving/lodging business. The Dive Shop idea took a little longer than planned to get going. With the help of his girlfriend Isabel Maria, and his son Robert who both got their PADI Divemaster certification, “Puerto Morelos Diving Lodge” finally opened its doors in 2012.
